One crop, one month

Strawberries, picked that morning

Pre-picked and sold the same day at the roadside stand. The season is short — roughly mid-June to mid-July — and when the day's picking is gone, it's gone.

Some days we open the rows for picking your own. It depends on the weather and how the fruit is coming, so it is never a fixed schedule — we post the next day's picking and selling on Facebook the evening before.

Matted row, bare-root

How they're grown

Perennial matted row — a block is planted, left a year to fill in, picked for two or three seasons, then taken out and started over. Grown from bare-root plants out of Nourse Farms:

• AC Wendy
• Annapolis
• Jewel
• Darselect
• Cabot

Overhead sprinklers reach every acre — water in July, and frost protection in May, when one freezing night on open blossoms would otherwise take the whole June crop.

The same ground

Four generations

1. 1980s

   Lindy's Berries was started by Phil Lindeman — Lindy — and his wife Helen.

2. 2000s

   Their daughter Jeni and her husband Scott Kunselman took it on.

3. 2026

   It became a family corporation, with their sons Ben and Jacob farming it alongside them.

4. The fourth generation

   Ben's two are already out working the season, and Jacob's will be as they grow — on the same ground.

Planned — none of it for sale yet

What's coming

Strawberries are the whole season today. Planned next are summer black raspberries, fall red raspberries, apples, sweet corn and pick-your-own wildflowers — enough to keep the farm worth the drive from June through September instead of for one month.

None of it is for sale yet. When it is, it will be announced on Facebook first.
